The goal of AMULET (Advanced Control Unit for Morphing Leading Edge Management) is to develop a power management unit with smart control capacities for the controlled deformation of a functional wing prototype with a morphing leading edge. This is a very new concept that seeks to replace the current deployable rigid surfaces (flaps, slats, etc.) for wing shape optimisation, with wings that adapt their shape to different flight conditions.
The AMULET system consists of a control board that can handle up to 4 power boards, each one connected to an actuator.
AMULET contributes to reinforcing Europe’s leading role in the fight against climate change, fully in line with the goals of CLEAN-SKY 2. New morphing technologies can open the door to high-performance, environmentally sustainable and more cost-effective aerospace operations by taking advantage of weight reduction brought about by new design philosophies without compromising strict aerospace safety requirements. These technologies also make it possible to contribute to or even improve safe aerospace operations through sensor-actuator technologies that are more effectively integrated as well as being cost-effective.
