Integral Digital Assistant for Productive Processes

Background

Currently, in any manufacturing industry associated with the main production sectors, such as the automotive, aeronautical or naval sectors, there is a cost that is complicated to tackle, such as unexpected production stoppages or downtime. There are different causes identified with respect to this problem:
  • Failure in production equipment.
  • Tool failure.
  • Operator error.
  • Poor maintenance.
  • Stock/inventory problems.
  • Poor planning.
  • Lack of communication.
  • Non-optimised changeover and preparation processes.

The Project

The general objectives of the research are:

GC1: To investigate a software tool, connected with different hardware devices, for training and assistance in any type of industrial production sector: aerospace, naval, traditional manufacturing, etc.

GC2: Integration of cutting-edge technologies such as natural language processing, artificial vision, mixed reality or IoT architecture, in the production support platform.

OG3: Feedback between virtualised technical training, or Smart Learning, and digital assistance, support for the operation of production processes, so that the system monitors the demand for assistance in order to shape specific training, in the event that there is a high incidence of this problem. Similarly, if the system detects a high number of recurring non-conformities in the virtual training, it will evaluate the incorporation of a specific work order as assistance as an interactive guide, in order to strengthen those manual processes that lack practical knowledge.

The Solution

The proposed solution, based on an open, integrated, interoperable, smart services integrator and scalable platform, serves to integrate these technologies in order to offer a comprehensive system to support technical personnel in production and maintenance tasks. The system will allow the user to be trained in activities related to production or maintenance operations, through Smart Learning, in addition to being able to execute work orders already in the factory through an interactive guide in augmented reality, or directly assisted by an expert, using mixed reality and artificial vision.

Benefits Obtained

The platform will internally monitor the remote assistance requested by the user, in order to be able to modulate specific training through 3D models and metadata from a media library. In other words, when the system detects a high frequency of requests for assistance, the managing user will be assisted by the possibility of modelling a specific virtualised training, in order to enhance the specific knowledge of the technical staff in that specific action.

Below is a general diagram of the platform, the interaction between the different technological bricks, transversal to the system, the connection with the original production systems, as well as the visualisation of the multipurpose and modular information:
