CAM-SmartTool 4.0 is an innovative project led by Skylife Engineering that has developed an intelligent platform integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Augmented Reality (AR) to transform airworthiness management and technical inspection processes across the aviation industry.

Context and Challenges

Technical aircraft inspections are essential to ensuring aviation safety. Governed by strict regulatory requirements, these inspections play a critical role in preventing a significant proportion of aviation incidents.

CAM-SmartTool 4.0 addresses this challenge by developing an application that combines Artificial Intelligence and Augmented Reality to enhance airworthiness management and inspection processes. The solution digitalises manual tasks, accelerates inspection workflows, and provides immersive user experiences.

The platform benefits aircraft leasing companies and air operators by streamlining the management of technical records while improving the efficiency of physical aircraft inspections. By leveraging advanced technologies to automate processes and manage data in real time, the project aims to increase both reliability and operational efficiency across the aviation industry.

Our Approach

The project aims to deliver a state-of-the-art solution that transforms the way technical inspections and airworthiness management are carried out.

The application provides automatic report digitalisation during physical inspections, uses Artificial Intelligence to manage aircraft technical records and extract critical information, and enables immersive inspection experiences through Augmented Reality smart glasses, allowing inspectors to verify aircraft status in real time.

The Solution

The project's ultimate objective is to improve the reliability, efficiency, and productivity of airworthiness management and physical aircraft inspection processes by leveraging disruptive Industry 4.0 technologies and process automation.

The solution delivers significant benefits to aircraft leasing companies, air operators, and other aviation stakeholders, contributing to a safer and more efficient future for the industry.

Financing

The CAM-SmartTool 4.0 project, with a budget of 102.610,00 € and a grant of 76.957,00 €, was carried out between 2023 and 2024.

The project was developed under the 2023 AEI call of the Spanish Ministry of Industry, Trade and Tourism, in collaboration with INDAER, S.L., SMARTECH CLUSTER, INNOAREA PROJECTS, S.L., and the Asturian Innovation Club.
