Augmented Reality and Indoor navigation for Enhanced aSSembly
The ARIESS project, led by Skylife Engineering between 2017 and 2021, explored the future of connected factories by combining Microsoft HoloLens, IoT, and indoor positioning technologies to improve efficiency and safety in industrial testing environments.
The Project
ARIESS is an R&D project coordinated by Skylife Engineering under the European Clean Sky 2 programme, within the topic "Hardware demonstrator development and deployment on Future Industrial Human Machine Interface (HMI) and Connected Factory Technologies" (JTI-CS2-2016-CFP04-AIR-02-34). The project focused on the following two research areas:
- Development of an advanced and portable Human–Machine Interface (HMI): Connected to existing testing systems through the use of Microsoft HoloLens augmented/mixed reality technology. The solution facilitates testing operations in real environments by displaying relevant process information, physically guiding users through the workspace, and enabling hands-free operation based on voice recognition and gesture control technologies.
- IoT networks and indoor positioning: Development and deployment of custom hardware enabling the interconnection of existing testing equipment and the automatic collection and integration of data into an IoT network. The solution also incorporates the capability to locate both users and equipment within the work area using Skylife Engineering's SILEME technology.
Financing
The ARIESS (Augmented Reality and Indoor Navigation for Enhanced Assembly) project was developed under the European Clean Sky 2 – H2020-CS2-CFP04-2016-02 programme, with 100% funding provided by the European Commission.
The project was carried out between 2017 and 2021, with a budget of 329.785 € allocated to Skylife Engineering as project coordinator and a total consortium budget of 495.534,50 €.
